Iran condoles with Philippines over deadly quake
The Islamic Republic of Iran has offered condolences to the Philippine government and nation over the recent powerful earthquake that killed more than 180 people.
Irans Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkhamon Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries of Filipinos as a result of the deadly temblor, and expressed hope the quake-stricken victims will be able to patiently weather the hardship.

On October 15, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake jolted the central Philippines. The death toll from the quake reached more than 180 people on Saturday. Hundreds of people have also been injured in the massive temblor.

The mass casualties were on the island of Bohol, the epicenter of the strong quake which is located about 600 kilometers from the capital Manila.

Tuesdays powerful tremor, followed by a number of aftershocks, has also caused huge landslides, shattered roads and collapsed structures.

The quake has reportedly affected nearly three million people across six provinces, forcing more than 300,000 people from their homes in Bohol.

Government and aid groups have been rushing to deliver relief aid to quake-stricken areas, but their efforts have been hampered due to impassable roads.

The Philippines sits on the Ring of Fire, an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
