Alice Munro familiar to Persian readers through six books

TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (MNA) The 2013 Nobel-winning author Alice Munro has been introduced to Persian readers through six of her books, which were translated into Persian over the past decade.


The Love of a Good Woman, Runaway, The View from Castle Rock, The Progress of Love, Passion, and Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage have been translated into Persian.

Runaway was translated by Shaqayeq Qandehari and published by Ofoq in 2006.

Another translation of the book was released by the Nilufar Publications in 2007. Mojdeh Daqiqi translated it.

First published in 2004 by McClelland and Stewart, Runaway was awarded that years Giller Prize.

A Persian version of Passion came out in 2010 from Kuleh-Poshti Publication. Shirin Ahadzadeh rendered it into Persian.

The View from Castle Rock was translated into Persian by Zahra Neychin in 2012 and Afraz Publications released it.

Shaqayeq Qandehari also translated The Love of a Good Woman into Persian. The book was released by Qatreh Publications.

The Love of a Good Woman won the 1998 Giller Prize and is a collection of eight stories that deal with Munro's typical themes: secrets, love, betrayal, and the stuff of ordinary lives.

The Iranian actress Taraneh Alidusti translated Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage in 2012, which was released by Markaz Publications.

Mehri Sharafi translated The Progress of Love into Persian, which was released by the Qoqnus Publication in 2013.

The book won the 1986 Governor Generals Award for English Fiction, her third win of that award.

In 2008, Iranian director Mani Haqiqi also made Canaan based on Munros Post and Beam.

Born in 1931, Alice Ann Munro is a Canadian author writing in English. The recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature and the 2009 Man Booker International Prize for her lifetime body of work, she is also a three-time winner of Canadas Governor Generals Award for fiction.
