TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of Irans Basij (volunteer) Force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi underlined that the recent discovery of chemical weapons at Tunisia's bordering areas proved the falsity of the western states' claims that President Bashar al-Assad's government has used such weapons.

"In the past few days, we have witnessed the discovery of a large cache of chemical bombs at the Tunisian borders, while they (the westerners) had claimed earlier that Bashar Assad's government had used such bombs," Naqdi said, addressing a gathering in Tehran onSaturday.

"The existence of chemical bombs in the Tunisian borders is a proof which discredits their (the westerners') boastful and untruthful claims," he added.

Syrian opposition groups claimed in late August that hundreds of people had been killed during a fierce government offensive against militant-held areas, and some activists claimed government troops used "poisonous gas". However, the Syrian government denied its troops used chemical weapons.

Many independent sources have since underlined that the chemical attack on the Damascus suburb of al-Ghouta had been carried out by the militants in a false flag operation to provide an excuse for the US and its allies to stage an attack on the Syrian government.
