TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Palestinian political figure described Syria as the spearhead of confrontation with American and Israeli expansionist policies, and called on the entire Muslim nations to offer Syria practical support in its fight against the terrorist groups.
“Syria is now the spearhead of confrontation with expansionism sought by the US and the Zionist regime (of Israel) and their allies,” Muhammad Nimr al-Zaghmout, head of the Palestinian Islamic Council in Lebanon and Refugee Camps told Tasnim News Agency on Monday.
He also emphasized the need for massive support for the Syrian government in the fight against foreign-backed terrorists, and noted, “The Arab and Muslim Ummahs (nations) should back up Syria, not only in word and the media, but also in action.”
In relevant remarks on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed concern over the deplorable situation in Syria, and urged all regional states to push for a solution to end the civil strife in the Arab country.
“All regional countries should make efforts to end the civil war in Syria,” Rouhani said in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman in New York on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies, especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
