United Nations, New York, Sept 30, IRNA Syrian deputy foreign minister welcomed normalization of Tehran-Washington relations, stressing contacts between the two countries would help find a diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis.
Faisal al-Miqdad made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA here on Sunday.
As to the recent phone call held between the Iranian President Hassan Rohani and his US counterpart Barack Obama, al-Miqdad said Damascus welcomes any contact that would improve relations and help regional stability.
He further criticized the inaction of western states towards the Zionist regimes chemical weapons and described Israels weapons of mass destruction as a major threat to the region.
Turning to Irans nuclear program, he said Tehran is pursuing nuclear activities for peaceful purposes and called for global support for Irans peaceful nuclear program.
Expressing his satisfaction with Tehran-Damascus amicable ties, the diplomat said the two enjoy strategic cooperation.
