TEHRAN, Aug.31 (MNA) The director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran confirmed on Friday that the commissioning of the Arak research reactor, in the central Iranian province of Markazi, has been delayed.Ali Akbar Salehi said that the delay was not due to technical problems, adding that Iran decided to delay the launch of the reactor because under safeguards agreements, Iran should notify the International Atomic Energy Agency of its decision to transfer nuclear fuel to any reactor 180 days in advance.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi said that the latest IAEA report on Iran indicated the transparency of the countrys nuclear activities.
According to Reuters, an IAEA report said on Wednesday that Iran had begun making nuclear fuel for its Arak heavy-water research reactor but had put off its commissioning beyond the planned first quarter of 2014.
The IAEA report also said Iran planned to test about 1,000 advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges it had completed installing.
