Iranian foreign ministry planning to appoint female ambassador, spokeswoman
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry said it plans to appoint a female ambassador and a spokeswoman for the first times since the victory of the Islamic Republic in Iran in 1979.

"(Iranian Foreign Minister) Mr. (Mohammad Javad) Zarif is interested in using women for two posts for the first time, including a spokeswoman and an ambassadorial post," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi said in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

"The first spokeswoman and the first female ambassador will be appointed and start their work soon and it is a success for the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy," he added.

He expressed confidence that the presence of women in the foreign policy arena can prove effective and successful.

In a relevant appointment earlier this month, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani appointed Elham Aminzadeh as his Vice-President for Legal Affairs.

The president said, in a decree, that Aminzadeh's scientific competence and judicial qualifications as well as legislative experience and moral merits were the causes of her appointment as the vice-president for legal affairs.

Rouhani took the oath of office in the Iranian parliament on August 4, one day after being endorsed by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
