TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Hamid Safdel said that Iran's furniture exports witnessed a significant growth last (Iranian) year (March 21, 2012-March 20, 2013).

"Exports of home-made furniture had remarkable growth compared to the figure for previous years and reached at $30mln in terms of value weighing around 12,000 tons," Safdel said, addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 22nd International Home Furniture Exhibition on Tuesday.

Safdel added that neighboring states such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic are main importers of Iranian furniture.

The organization tries to increase furniture exports to $1bln a year, he said.

In mid-April, Hamid Safdel, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, who is also the Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), said that the value of the Iran's non-oil exports to different world states in the past Iranian year (ended March 20) has exceeded $41bln despite the sanctions and restrictions imposed by the West on Tehran.

"The value of export of our non-oil products hit $41.5bln last year," Safdel said.

He noted that the total value of Iran's foreign trade reached $95bln during March 20, 2012-March 21, 2013 period.

Earlier this year, Head of the Exports Commission of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Asadollah Asgaroladi said that his commission plans to equalize the volume of the country's non-oil exports and imports in the next Iranian year (started March 21).

"If we are due to import goods worth about $60bln to $65bln, the country should have the same amount of exports," Asgaroladi said in February.
