Davutoglu meets Iran's new president behind closed doors

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met Monday withIran's newPresident Hassan Rouhani who was sworn in on Sunday.


The meeting took place behindthe closed doors. Davutoglu attended Rouhani's oath-taking ceremony on behalf of Turkish President Abdullah Gul.

Before leaving the Iranian capital of Tehran Davutoglu is likely to meetwith his Iranian counterpartAli AkbarSalehi who is expected to resign.

Davutoglu alsoheld bilateral talks in Tehran afterattending theoath-taking ceremony of Rouhani as Iran's new president.

Davutoglu metseparately with hisBrazilianandKuwaiti counterparts,Antonio Partiota, andSheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah respectively.

Davutoglu and his Kuwaiti counterpart discussed regional issues including Egypt and Syria, said diplomatic sources.

Later Davutoglu came together with Patriotaand theydiscussedTurkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's uncertain plan to visit Brazil for High Level Strategic Cooperation Meeting. The two ministers also discussed the political turmoil in Egypt and reiterated that Egypt would return to democracy withinthe shortest possible time.Davutoglu also discussedhis futureexpectationsonthe process ofIsrael-Palestine peace talks launched by the US.

Davutoglu also met with Turkmenistan's PresidentGurbanguli Berdimuhammedov to discuss mainlybilateral economic relations.

He also came together with his Palestinian counterpartRiyad Malki and South Africa'sInternational Relations and Cooperation MinisterMaite Nkoana-Mashabane separately.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Malki informedDavutoglu about the process ofIsrael-Palestine peace talks and the stepsto be taken.

Davutoglu said they were pleased with resumption ofpeace talks,adding Turkey was following the process closely and would offer help in any case.
