Militants shell school in Syria, 3 killed

Foreign-backed militants in Syria have fired a mortar shell on a school in the western city of Homs, killing at least three civilians and injuring several others, Syrian media said.
The shell was fired on Thursday on Maysaloun School in al-Dablan neighborhood, where tens of displaced families were staying, official SANA news agency reported.

The injured people were taken to a nearby hospital in Homs.

SANA quoted an official source as saying that the attack caused extensive material damage to the school.

The foreign-sponsored militants also fired a mortar shell on the Radio and TV Center in Homs and injured two people, the agency said.

Another shell also fell on the vegetables market in al-Khder neighborhood, injuring one civilian and causing damage to cars and the nearby buildings.

Meanwhile, Syrian army soldiers confiscated weapons belonging to the foreign-backed Takfiri militants in the town of al-Haffah in Latakia province.

The weapons included sniper rifles, automatic weapons, ammunition, and communication devices.

Syrian government forces also destroyed terrorist hideouts in several areas in Homs, killing a number of militants and destroying their weapons and ammunition.

The Syrian army has conducted successful operations against the Takfiri militants over the past weeks.

Western powers and their regional allies including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are supporting anti-Syria militant groups, including al-Qaeda-linked terrorists.

Foreign-sponsored militancy has taken its toll on the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel, since March 2011.
