Japan has called on president-elect Hassan Rohani to engage in serious dialogue with the international community to resolve Irans nuclear energy issue."For its nuclear issue to be peacefully resolved, we hope that Iran, under president-elect Rohani, will hold serious dialogue with the international community, Japans Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Monday.
He said that his country would call on Iran to address the nuclear issue in an appropriate manner based on amiable relations.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the claim as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions against Iran.
Tehran rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Suga further underscored Irans influence in the Middle East region, saying Tehran should play an important role in peace and stability in the Middle East.
Rohani won Irans June 14 presidential election with an outright victory, gaining 18,613,329 votes, or 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots.
Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to participate in the presidential election. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.
