Rohani urges high voter turnout in presidential election

Iranian presidential candidate Hassan Rohani has called for a high voter turnout in the upcoming election in order to create a political epic.

During his visit to the northwestern province of Gilan on Sunday, Rohani said, “Your presence is [required] to create the epic of Khordad 24 (June 14), an epic to save this country, an epic to overcome poverty, high prices and unemployment.”

Rohani added that the existing problems in the country can be resolved through the unity and perseverance of the people.

“The only path to victory and success is your presence on the day of Khordad 24 (June 14),” the presidential candidate said.

“I am certain that if we call in all competent managers to run the country and if we extend, with humbleness, a hand of cooperation to professors, scholars, and competent and experienced people, our country will overcome all problems,” Rohani added.

Rohani is competing against seven rivals, namely Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, former Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. This year’s election will be held on June 14.

Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.
