Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has hailed Tehran-Baku ties as friendly and excellent, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran wants dignity, progress and welfare for Azerbaijan.
“Iran and Azerbaijan are two brother nations and governments and the Islamic Republic of Iran is pleased to see Azerbaijan’s independence, progress and dignity,” said Ahmadinejad in a Saturday meeting with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh.
He said that Tehran-Baku cooperation is based on brotherhood and religion, stressing that Iran and Azerbaijan have always stood by each other and would continue to do so.
Ahmadinejad said bilateral ties have always been the target of ill-wishers and enemies and said, they have resorted to unsubstantiated issues to tarnish the relations between the two countries but they have failed and will not succeed in the future thanks to the vigilance of the governments of the two countries and nations.
“Today our most urgent duty is to consolidate cooperation between the two countries so that it would not cross the mind of any ill-wisher to mar the relations between the two states,” he said.
Allahshukur Pashazadeh, for his part, said that Azerbaijan seeks friendship and brotherhood with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He added the two countries are supporters of each other and seek to boost ties based on friendship and brotherhood.
