Iran has held country's first official press conference regarding the upcoming presidential elections, that will be held on June 14, 2013, IRIB News reported.
Country's Intelligence Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, speaking at the press conference, said that the registration of the presidential candidates will be held on May 7-12. Najjar also said that simultaneously with presidential elections, Iran will hold the City and Village Councils' elections on the same day. He added, that the registration of candidates for those elections would be held on April 15-21.

Speaking of the presidential election campaigns, Najjar noted that it is yet early to comment on anything. Iranians will choose their seventh president to succeed Ahmadinejad in the next year's election, which is scheduled for June 14, 2013. On Dec. 10, Iranian lawmaker Laleh Eftekhari said that Iran's Majlis (parliament) is set to make some important changes to the Islamic Republic's presidential electoral law. "Election law needed to be reformed. The changes to the composition of the provincial executive board will definitely help the Interior Ministry during the whole process of elections," he said. Iran's current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad criticized the planned changes, saying the amendments would pave the way for the parliament's interference in the electoral process.
