Iran’s Jalili in Syria to meet Asad

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili has arrived in Damascus, Syria’s capital, on Tuesday for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and a number of the country’s senior officials.

Jalili arrived at Damascus International Airport on Tuesday and was welcomed by Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnous and Iran’s Ambassador to Syria Mohammad Reza Sheibani, Press TV said.

Jalili, the Secretary of Iran’s SNSC, flew in from Beirut where he held talks on Monday with Lebanese leaders to tackle Syrian crisis.

Upon his arrival at the Rafik Hariri International Airport, Jalili said “We have special respect for Lebanon first because it represents the symbol of resistance and secondly because it has become a key path for security and stability for the entire region.”

Top Iranian security official also stated that his visit to Beirut is aimed at consulting with Lebanese officials given the sensitive developments and conditions in the region.

In a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Jalili called for all-out cooperation among regional states to stop spread of insecurity throughout the region, IRNA reported.
