Ex-IAEA deputy: JCPOA helping expand nuclear cooperation with Iran

IRNA -- Former IAEA Deputy Director General Werner Burkart said on Wednesday that sound implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) increased the opportunity to expand peaceful nuclear cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speaking to IRNA, he said majority of representative delegates believe that verification of Iran's nuclear program is on the good track.

Following resolve of Safeguard related issues through sound implementation of the JCPOA, IAEA can focus more on nuclear related activities for peace and development, he said.

Seasonal IAEA Board of Governors will be continued till Friday in which the latest reports delivered by Amano on monitoring of Iran's nuclear programs will be examined.

The second report in the meeting will be about Iran's nuclear-related activities in 2017 themed 'Verification and Monitoring of Iran's nuclear program according to resolution UNSC 2231 which was released on Friday, June the 2nd, and was put at the disposal of IAEA Board of Governors.

Earlier report underlined that Iran continues its peaceful nuclear activities within the JCPOA accord.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano on Monday confirmed that Iran will ship 20 tons of its heavy water reserves in the near future.

Speaking to reporters in a press conference, he said our information indicates that Iran will ship 20 tons of its heavy water overseas in the near future, but we are not allowed to say where it goes.

Any negative understanding of IAEA's reports will be regarded as misunderstanding, he said.

Amano said that IAEA is to continue its verification to make sure non-deviation of Irans nuclear materials which should be based on IAEA safeguard agreement and assessment on non-existence of such materials and undeclared nuclear activities will be underway.

Quarterly meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will continue till Friday in which the latest reports delivered by Amano on monitoring of Iran nuclear programs will be examined.
