Iranian official urges efforts to attract foreign investment

Tasnim Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht on Tuesday asked political parties that criticize the administration to help attract foreign investment by refraining from destabilizing the countrys political atmosphere.

We call on those who are fond of the (Iranian) nation to make the atmosphere so stable that foreign investors become willing to have a presence in the country, instead of sowing discord and preaching sedition, Nobakht said during his press conference here in Tehran.

There is no country in the world that has achieved high growth without foreign resources, he said, adding that using foreign resources is part of the countrys policy of Resistance Economy.

The spokesman went on to say that those who like the countrys people should avoid straining the atmosphere of the country.

The remarks come against the backdrop of recent attempts by some Principlist political figures to drum up support for their presidential candidates by hammering President Hassan Rouhani, who is known as a Reformist.

According to the director general of the Economy Ministrys Foreign Investment Office, Iran approved over $9 billion in foreign investment during the last Iranian year (March 20, 2016 March 21, 2017).
