Rouhani: Iran flag-bearer of fight against terrorism, violence

IRNA - Presidential candidate Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday that Iran is now recognized as the forerunner of fight against terrorism and violence.

Speaking in a radio program, he said that national dignity is currently the most important issue for the country.

Currently Iranians feel more dignity both inside and outside the country as the language of Iranophobia is no more active like the past, Rouhani said.

He added that those who used to talk against Iran and Iranians in the past and promoted Iranophobia are no longer using the same language as they have realized that Iran is the flag-bearer of fight against violence and terrorism.

He said unlike certain former officials of the country, he signaled the world nations to talk to the Iranian nation with the language of respect not humiliation and after the nuclear talks reached the right course it was clear that the world has received his message.

The landmark nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was signed between Iran and the world six major nations (US, UK, Russia, China and France plus Germany) in 2015 putting an end to more than a decade of nuclear dispute between the two sides.

'Extremism and violence have never led any nation to happiness or progress,' Rouhani said.

Referring to his initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 for urging the world nations to fight against violence and extremism which was later approved by the UN member states as the WAVE Act (the World against Violence and Extremism), President Rouhani said, Today world feels more respect for our country.

Elsewhere in his radio address, he referred to the increase of trust in Irans economic stability.

All Iranian investors including the Iranians residing abroad have started to make investment in Iran and are ready to kick off further investment in giant projects.

In order to have export markets, we should have constructive engagement with the world, Rouhani said.

He further touched upon the increase of oil revenues and said that since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21), some 20 billion dollars will be added to Irans annual oil revenues.

Rouhani rejected radical approaches and noted that continuing moderate approaches will help resolution of countrys problems.

He pointed to the recession, inflation and unemployment rate before coming to office in 2013 and said that the UN resolutions against Iran including the UN Security Council Resolution 1929 have damaged people economic security before the landmark nuclear deal.

Elaborating the government policies to resolve problems in the past four years, the President said that at the first step, the government entered nuclear talks with the world to lift sanctions and end Irans isolation.

Controlling the inflation, revival of production units and boosting peoples purchasing power as well as facilitating people communication with the world were among other major steps taken by the government to improve public welfare, Rouhani noted.

Stressing the need to promote non-oil exports, he added that he plans to double the current 50-billion-dollar non-oil exports if being re-elected as the president in the May 19 presidential elections.

Rouhani added that his government plans to attract one million more tourists each year as tourism boosts employment and employment is currently one of the major needs of the country.

The first requirement for employment is to attract public trust and the second requirement is technology, he said.
