Sputnik - US complaints over how the nuclear deal on Iran is being implemented are irrelevant, he head of the Russian Foreign Ministrys Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, Mikhail Ulyanov, said Thursday.

THE HAGUE (Sputnik) On April 19, US President Donald Trump ordered a National Security Council-led interagency review ofthe JCPOA toevaluate Iran's compliance withthe deal, withthe US State Secretary Rex Tillerson stating that the nuclear deal "fails toachieve the objective ofnon-nuclear Iran." Tehran, inits turn, stressed that the deal was an international treaty and cannot be changed, adding that Iran was fulfilling its obligations underthe JCPOA.
"If the deal does not work, then specific complaints should be made regarding its functioning. The Americans cannot do this. The IAEA, an independent participant inthis process, confirms that the Iranians are implementing everything. Therefore, any claims are irrelevant here, it seems tome," Ulyanov said.

Ulyanov noted that it was necessary forTillerson toseparate the notions ofterrorism and nuclear deal, which have nothing incommon.

The JCPOA was signed byIran and the P5+1 countries China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States plus Germany inJuly 2015, ensuring the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program inreturn forthe gradual lifting ofsanctions againstTehran. The deal came intoforce onJanuary 16, 2016, afterthe International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran was ready toimplement the program toreduce its nuclear potential.

However, the United States imposed new sanctions againstIran inFebruary 2017 aftera medium-range ballistic missile test has been carried outby Tehran inlate January.
