Russia says US policies towards Iran not clear

IRNA Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that US policies for the Middle Eastern countries, including Iran and Syria is not clear.

She told independent news channel Dozhd that 'As I take it, nothing is clear to anyone at the moment'.

We do not understand what the US will do in Syria and not only there. Nobody is clear what they will do in the Middle East, because the Middle East, pardon the banality, is a very complex region. It is not clear to anybody what they will do with Iran. It isnt clear to anyone what they will do with Afghanistan.

Commenting on the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visit to Moscow, the Russian spokeswoman added that Russia did not cancel Tillersons visit following the US strike on Syria because Moscow seeks to 'understand what the strategy of the US is.

Tensions between Moscow and Washington escalated when a Syrian airfield was attacked by the US missiles under the pretext of the use of chemical weapons allegedly by Bashar Assads government against its own people, a claim strongly rejected by Damascus.

It was the first US direct assault on Syrian fortifications on Friday as a result of which some 59 missiles were fired on Shayrat air base in Homs Province in Syria.

The missile attack was conducted without the UN Security Council and the US Congress consent.
