Hundreds of Iranian navy forces deployed in Makran coasts

Tasnim Hundreds of the Iranian Navys Special Forces and commandos were stationed in the Makran region on Sunday as part of the ongoing naval exercises in southern parts of the country.

The Iranian Navy on Sunday deployed hundreds of its forces to different parts of the Makran region located in southeast of the country, along the coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Sunday marked the first day of the last phase of the Navys large-scale military drills underway in a vast maritime zone in south.

The war game, codenamed Velayat 95", covers an area of 2 million square kilometers, stretching from the Strait of Hormuz and Oman Sea to north of the Indian Ocean and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The special forces have been stationed in Makran coastline, which stretches into Pakistans southwestern areas, to conduct operations against hypothetical invading enemies, using modern naval warfare.

The strategic Makran region has attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials, particularly after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for development of the region.

In November 2014, in a meeting with high-ranking Navy commanders, Ayatollah Khamenei said the issue of development of the coasts of Makran is a major task and plans for that region should be carried out more rapidly.
