Iran reserves right for reciprocal action, official says after US travel ban

Tasnim Spokesman for the Iranian Administration Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said it is the right of the Iranian nation and government to take reciprocal measures against US President Donald Trumps recent order to bar citizens of seven countries, including Iran, from entering the US.

We consider it the right of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people to respond in kind to the new US governments move to prevent entry into the country from Iran and six other Muslim states, Nobakht told Tasnim on Tuesday.

As in the past, whenever there is a breach of commitment by others, the administration reserves the right to take reciprocal action, he added.

Trump on Friday signed the order that bars all persons from seven countries from entering the US for 90 days and suspends the US Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days. The countries affected are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia.

Trumps order also cancelled the Visa Interview Waiver Program, which once allowed repeat travelers to the United States to be able to forgo an in-person interview to renew their visa. Under the new order, these travelers will now have to have in-person interviews.
