IRNA � President Hassan Rouhani in a message on Wednesday congratulated Michel Aoun on his election as new Lebanese president.

Undoubtedly, such election was a symbol of resistance and unity of the Lebanese nation, Rouhani said in his message.

Also, he added, it would be promising move to flourish Lebanon and make it strong in dealing with the regional and internal affairs.

Further, the Iranian President hoped the two countries would strengthen relations during the new tenure more than ever.

Rouhani, at the end of his message, wished prosperity and success for the newly elected President Aoun and the Lebanese nation.

Lebanon's parliament on October 31 elected Michel Aoun, a member of parliament and a former army commander, as the country's 13th president.

Election of Aoun as president puts an end to a political stand-off caused by Saudi intervention that had left the post empty for more than two years.

Michel Aoun received 83 votes out of the total 127 votes cast to become president.
