Iran, Turkey sign agriculture deals

Iran, Turkey sign agriculture deals
TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran and Turkey signed a number of agreements to promote cooperation in agriculture, including a road map to strategic partnership in this field.

The documents were signed by agriculture ministers of the two countries at the conclusion of the 6th session of a joint strategic committee on Iran-Turkey agricultural cooperation, held in Ankara on Friday.

Under the agreements, the two neighbors will cooperate on farm animal quarantine practices and will also work together within the framework of a road map to strategic agricultural cooperation.

In an address to a ceremony after inking the deals, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati said Iran and Turkey can complement each other in the economic sector, saying three bilateral agreements in less than six months signify determination on part of both sides for closer cooperation.

For his part, Turkeys Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Faruk Celik underscored that agriculture should make up an appropriate share in the volume of bilateral trade, which is expected to reach $30 billion.

Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts in recent months to boost bilateral trade after implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
