Iran ready to export gas to Iraq: NIGC head

Tehran, June 28, IRNA Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said Iran will export gas to Baghdad as soon as the Iraqi side expresses readiness for the import.

Ali Reza Kameli made the remarks while referring to the recent developments in Iraq as well as security progress in that country including successful operations against terrorist group of Daesh there.

The Iraqi government may soon express readiness to import gas from Iran regarding recent developments in that country, Kameli told IRNA.

Technical infrastructure and gas pipelines are all ready for that export, said the official, adding that Tehran and Baghdad are both technically ready for that exchange.

Continuation of insecurity in Iraq, which has been facing terrorism of Daesh, is described as the serious obstacle to export of gas to that country.

Plan for Iran's gas export to Iraq had been slated for about two years ago, but it was postponed due to insecurity in that country.

Daily four million cubic meters of gas exports to Iraq is aimed to meet gas need in Iraqi power plants.

The exports have the capacity of being raised to 35 million cubic meters of gas per day.
