MOSCOW (Sputnik) Over 5,800 refugee minors went missing inGermany last year, local media reported Monday, citing an official reply fromthe German Interior Ministry.
According toBerlins estimates obtained bythe Funke media group, 555 missing minors are younger than14 years old.
"The missing unaccompanied minors come mainly fromAfghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Morocco and Algeria," the reply reads.
The German Interior Ministry could not specify reasons forthe migrants disappearance.
Germany has become a key destination forthe migrants fleeing war and poverty sincethe start of2015. The countrys Interior Ministry estimates that Germany received around1.1 million registered migrants last year alone. At the same time, German media reported, citing ministry officials, about500,000 undocumented migrants currently staying inthe country.
