major explosion shakes center of Turkish capital

A major explosion has shaken central Ankara on Wednesday, leaving over 20 people dead and scores injured.





The explosion took place ina military housing complex nearthe country's parliament building at16:30 GMT.


Over 20 people have been killed and 61 injured, according toauthorities.
"There are 61 injured, they were taken to14 city hospitals. I cannot tell the exact number ofvictims asit is the task ofthe Interior Ministry, but, according tomy information, atleast 20-21 people have been killed. Three people died inhospitals. Three are currently insurgery," Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu said.


The official representative ofthe Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) mer elik called the explosion a "terrorist act."
"The terrorist attack in a densely populated area once again shows the vile face ofterrorism," mer elik said.


The attack targeted buses withthe personnel ofthe Turkish General Staff, according toa statement.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has been informed ofthe incident, CNN Turk reports.

Davutoglu cancelled his visit toBrussels due tothe attack, according tothe prime minister's office.
