Envoy foresees unanimous vote on closure of Irans PMD case

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi said that the IAEA Board of Governors is expected to vote in favor of closing a file on the so-called possible military dimensions (PMD) in Tehrans nuclear activities.

Predictions suggest that the Board of Governors will unanimously pass a resolution that the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) has proposed to close the PMD case once and for all, Reza Najafi told IRIB on Monday.

A much-awaited Tuesday session of the Board of Governors is going to decide on the resolution on the closure of Irans PMD case.

Najafi noted that tomorrows meeting is not expected to last longer than half a day.

He also expressed the hope that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the sextet, would come into force in late December or early January.

As required based on a Road-map signed between Iran and the IAEA in July, the agency finished its investigations about Irans nuclear activities and submitted a report to the Board of Governors earlier this month.

The Road-map was signed on the same day that Tehran and the Group 5+1 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement, known as the JCPOA.

The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Irans commitments under the JCPOA.

The agreement was officially adopted on October 18, and is going to take effect soon.
