Iran parliament approval of nuclear agreement ‘good news’ – Mogherini

The approval of a groundbreaking nuclear deal with the six world powers by the Iranian parliament is “good news,” EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said Tuesday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Earlier on Tuesday, the Iranian Parliament approved the P5+1 agreement on the country’s nuclear program.

It was necessary for the parliament to approve the deal before it could be implemented. The bill must now be approved by the Guardian Council of the Constitution, a group comprising the Islamic republic's senior clerics.
“Good news from Teheran [Tehran] today: parliamentary process of the nuclear deal completed, getting closer to formal adoption #IranDeal,” Mogherini said on her Twitter account.

The July pact, aimed at ensuring that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful in exchange for sanctions relief, will come into force on October 18 after approval by the Guardian Council.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to provide a final assessment of Tehran’s compliance with the agreement by December 15.
