Iranian senior clerics slam Saudis over mismanagement in Mina disaster

Tehran, September 27, The Iran Project – In separate remarks, a group of senior clerics in Qom including Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, Hossein Nouri Hamedani and Jafar Sobhani firmly denounced the Saudi Arabia mismanagement in the annual haj pilgrimage on Sunday.

Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi called it a tragic incident that grieved everyone.  “The incident is mainly due to the Saudis mismanagement and imprudence,” Ayatollay Makarem said.

Ayatollah Nouri Hamedai urges Muslims to take the Al-Aqsa mosque from the Zionists and Mecca from the Saudi family. The senior cleric went on to say that this is an incident which no one can forget, adding that Wahhabism is a fake ideology created by the Islam enemies.

Another senior cleric, Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani expressed deep sorrow over the death of hundreds of Muslims, reiterating that the Saudi government’s irresponsibility and carelessness is the best explanation for this disaster.

Last Thursday when two massive crowds converged on a narrow street, many pilgrims suffocated or were trampled to death. In this tragedy, at least 769 Muslims have been reportedly killed and hundreds of others were wounded.

Also, Iranian death toll reached 144 in Mina stampede.
