Iran supports Iraq territorial integrity, national sovereignty

Tehran, May 6, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Wednesday that Iran supports Iraqi territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

She made the remarks in her weekly press briefing.

Afkham commented on the US congress offer on Iraq partition and said the plan faced strong reaction of Iraqi government, nation, and religious leaders - Marjaiat.

She rebuked the US for interventionist scenarios aiming to divide Iraq and ethnic hostility.

Vigilance of Iraqi government, nation and Marjaiat will prevent such schemes to come true, she said, adding that alertness of Iraqi people will guarantee integrity of Iraq.

Meanwhile, Afkham said Iran has always been a well wisher for the neighbors and regional countries, favoring peace, stability, cooperation and convergence.

She dismissed the comment made by the Saudi senior official about the imminent nuclear deal with the western governments and said wrong analyses based on wrong intelligence and self-interests will definitely drive the region to tension and disintegration, not long-term interests of any of the regional countries.

Asked about meeting of French officials with Arab officials and their view on the nuclear accord and foreign interference in the region, Afkham said foreign presence in the region has always been the cause of instability, insecurity, divide and tension.

She said financial interests of the countries and their motivation to interfere in the region are fully known and Iran calls for vigilance of regional countries to end the meddling.

She recalled the unwavering support of the western governments for regime of Saddam Hossein of Iraq and said that the western governments had better have a look to the past and take a lesson from the measures bringing negative backlash.

She then touched on talks between Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister and Russian officials on deterioration of humanitarian situation in Yemen and said both countries have a close stance on Yemen crisis and let's not forget that the crisis has a political solution not military one and that's pivot of the talks.

'Governments try to check the wide scale of the military aggresssion on Yemen because its consequences can not be compensated. We held consultations on the issue but the priority is attention to humanitarian situation and immediate shipment of aid to Yemen. Iran-Russia consultations focus on humanitarian situation in Yemen.'

On Tehran-London ties, Afkham said the two sides are busy in the expert-level talks to resume their embassies.

To another question, Afkham said Iraqi President Fouad Masoum will visit Iran next week at the invitation of President Hassan Rouhani.

The two presidents will discuss various issues, including activity of the terrorist and Takfiri groups, as well as comprehensive regional cooperation in campaign against terrorism.

She added that several ministers will accompany the Iraqi president and more details on the issue will be revealed later.

On Syria crisis, she said Iran has always been emphasizing political solution to Syria crisis.

As for Iran presence in the Geneva talks to settle Syria crisis, Afkham said consultations are held in presence of ambassadors of countries but the way is open for participation of experts. Iran will take part in the talks at the expert level, she added. The talks are in the bilateral form at an invitation by the UN Chief envoy in Syira.

'The talks are on bilateral level and not international and Iran is a partner in the consultations.'

Asked about Jeddah Airport offense against two Iranian young pilgrim , she said the case is followed by both Iran Embassy and consulate office and the Islamic Republic of Iran is seriously following up the judicial and administrative procedure of the case.
