With a population of 46,722, Tafts villages are the main fruit production centers of the province. It is well known for its premium pomegranate, Tehran-based English newspaper Iran Daily reported.

Mohammad Bastani-Parizi, a contemporary writer and historian, attributes the name of Taft to desert heat.

Known for its numerous natural, cultural and historical attractions, including mountainous landscape, water springs, aqueducts and waterfalls, Taft is a pleasant destination for tourists.

Taft has the largest number of aqueducts in Yazd.

Because of its beautiful scenery, pleasant environment, moderate weather and lush orchards, it is one of the best tourist destinations of the province.

Taft Anthropology Museum

The museum, which dates back to Qajar era, is located in Shah Khalil II Mausoleum in the center of Taft next to Shah Vali Complex.

The mausoleums building, spread over 400 square meters, is made of mud-bricks. It includes southern and eastern porches, two dome houses, chambers in the western wing and a tile dome.

Shah Khalil is one of the grandsons of Shah Nematollah Vali, who was killed in Herat. His body was transferred to Yazd and then buried at the present place.

The building was registered at No. 2342 on the National Heritage List on May 29, 1999. Restored in 2008, it was converted into a museum in 2010.

Ancient anthropological items such as military tools, farm equipments, and ancient documents and deeds are kept at the museum.

Sadri Garden

Sadri Garden, which dates back to the Zandieh era, is one of the sightseeing spots of Taft.

Established on the order of Sadr-ol-Olama, a Zand governor, the 400-year-old garden has a two-story wind tower. There is a 500-square-meter stone-lined pond with 95 fountains in front of the building.

There is a watermill at the end of the garden.

Oqab Mountain

Oqab Mountain is located 30 km off Yazd-Shiraz road. It is a single high mountain. With a height of 2,000 meters, it looks like a sitting eagle.

To climb the mountain, one has to travel from the west of Islamieh Village, which is located 10 km from Taft. Since the mountain is composed of limestone, it lacks plants.

Qadamgah Mosque

The 900-year-old mosque is one of the ancient monuments of Yazd province.

Located in Eslamieh Village along Taft-Dehshir Road, the mud-brick building has a brick dome. It has plasterworks and stone inscriptions.

Nearby is a slope named Kouh Lizok where visitors, mainly children, sit down for enjoying a slippery ride.

Taft has a number of Ab Anbar, which are reservoirs that collected water from underground canals. Unfortunately, neglect has turned them into garbage dumps.

Irans Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization has not allocated adequate funds for the restoration of Tafts cultural heritage.
