No change in Erdogan visit to Tehran: Deputy FM

Tehran, March 29, IRNA -- Deputy Foreign Minister in Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqawi said there has been no change in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's planned visit to Tehran.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran and to a question about the visit taking place in April, Qashqawi said according to what he knows, there was no change in the schedule.

In provocative statements, Turkey's president accused Iran on Thursday to try to dominate the region. Turkey has supported Saudi Arabia's military aggression against Yemen.

In an implicit criticism of Erdogan's comments, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday, 'Those who have caused irreparable damage with their strategic blunders and ambitious policies had better adopt responsible policies aimed at using the existing capacities for establishing peace and convergence in the region.'

Meanwhile, in related news, Turkish President Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Thursday there has been no change in the president's planned visit to Iran.

Speaking to reporters, Kalin made the remarks to a question raised over the impact of Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Yemen on relations between Iran and Turkey.

Kalin underscored that Iran is an important neighboring country and remains an essential trade partner of Turkey, adding that recent developments in Yemen make Erdogans visit to Iran in April even more topical.
