Irans second gas storage facility to come on stream in 2 weeks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian deputy oil minister said the countrys second natural gas storage facility will become operational in two weeks.

Injection of gas into Irans second gas storage facility in Shorije will begin in the next two weeks, Hamid Reza Araqi told reporters on Monday, on the sidelines of a conference of the International Gas Union (IGU).

The new facility is located in Shorije, in Irans northeastern province of Khorassan Razavi.

Araqi noted that there will be enough available gas to be injected in the newly-established facility for at least two months, but added that the volume of natural gas for storage depends on how much input the Iranian Oil Company could deliver to the site.

In December 2012, Iran launched the first underground natural gas storage facility in Sarajeh region in the country's central province of Qom, which, after completion of its second phase, has the capacity to store 3.3 billion cubic meters of gas.

The Sarajeh gas storage facility's injection capacity is 10 million cubic meters per day.

Earlier, Managing-Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Oji announced that Iran has comprehensive plans for gas storage.

He said studies have been conducted on more than 200 storage facilities, 40 of which have been diagnosed to be proper.
