syrian_flagTEHRAN, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's special envoy and Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad met here on Saturday with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdollahian to discuss the developments of the situation in Syria.
The extensive talks focused on the efforts to stabilize the situation in Syria and the efforts of the Syrian government to combat terrorism, on one hand, and hold a political dialogue with the opposition groups, on the other, Abdollahian said in statements aired by the Iranian Al-Alam satellite TV channel tonight.

The talks also dealt with the success prospects of mediation effort of the Arab League-UN joint envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi as well as the outcome of Muqdad's visit to Russia, he revealed.

Abdollahian added that the governments of both Iran and Syria share identical views on how to stabilize the situations in Syria at a time when regional and international powers started to focus on the political means to end the crisis after the second Geneva meeting of the friends of Syria.

Muqdad, accompanied by Syrian Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnous, arrived here earlier today from Moscow where he held talks with senior Russian officials; he also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on issues of mutual interests.
