The proposal to redirect the Araz River towards the Lake Urmia (Iran, West Azerbaijan province) includes not only environmental, but also political aspect.
This was stated by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov at International Exhibition on Environmental Protection "Caspian: Technologies for the environment".
"If Iran has the intention to sign a paper on this issue, it must negotiate with Azerbaijan," said the minister.
According to him, Iran should negotiate with those countries with which it shares the Araz River and has an agreement about this.
"If the Iranian side will appeal to the Azerbaijani authorities with a proposal for talks on the issue, we will take into account all aspects, not just environmental, and political," said Bagirov.
The minister stressed that after analyzing the situation the parties may come to a definite result and sign a document.
