Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for talks with Iranian officials, shortly after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to The Iran Project, during his Tehran visit, Haniyeh held separate meetings with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Ebrahim Raeisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

According to the official news agency IRNA, "Examining the latest situation of the war in Gaza and the ongoing aggression of the Zionist regime against the people of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank were among the most important agendas of the trip and the talks between the officials of the two sides."

The visit came at a crucial time, just one day after the ceasefire resolution was adopted, making it Haniyeh's second visit to Iran since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza in October.

More than 32,000 people have been killed by the Israeli regime in Gaza since the start of the war in early October.

That comes as the United Nations Security Council adopted a draft resolution this week demanding an immediate ceasefire.

In a Wednesday meeting with a delegation of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas led by the group’s politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, Iran's President Raisi noted that the country feels proud for supporting the cause of Palestine as he insists that Tehran will continue to assist resistance groups fighting brutal Israeli aggression in Gaza.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is firm in defending the rights of the Palestinian nation and (we) will always remain on the side of the people in Palestine and will be proud of our support for the Palestinian cause,” Raisi said.

He furher accused the United States and the Zionist regime of being hypocritical in their diplomatic efforts to end the war in Gaza, saying that what has happened in Gaza in recent months has been a scandal for the US and some Western governments that supported Israel’s massacre against the Palestinians.

In a meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, the Iranian parliament speaker stressed that the entire Muslim world has a duty to support Gaza.

"The resistance of the Resistance Front and the Palestinian people is outstanding, and the entire Islamic world has a duty to support the people of Gaza," Qalibaf said in the meeting.

Haniyeh, for his part, expressed gratitude for the Islamic Republic of Iran's support to Palestinians and noted the Palestinians have shown great resistance over the past six months.

Haniyeh, Iran's General Baqeri meet

Haniyeh and his accompanying delegation met on Friday with Iran’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri.

Supporting Palestine has been among the main strategies and goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran since the beginning of the Revolution, and this trend will undoubtedly continue, General Baqeri said.

Haniyeh, for his part, said that marginal issues in Palestine had caused the demands of the Palestinian people to be ignored, but by God's grace, Operation Al-Aqsa Storm made the words of the Palestinian people's hearts reach the ears of the world.

Since the beginning of Israel's military aggression and genocide against the Palestinians, Iran has used its diplomatic power to try to stop the war and provide immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza.
