A senior Iranian commander says the presence of the US Army in the region is aimed at containing Iran, pledging an “irreparable response” to any attack on the Islamic Republic.
“Iranians have always been and will be a peace-seeking nation, but if any war is launched by the enemies against an inch of Iranian territory, they will face an irreparable response,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan said on Monday.
He added that the Iranian Armed Forces have succeeded in turning Iran into the "most secure country in the region" through their defense preparedness achieved during the Iraqi imposed war (1980-88) and different military maneuvers.
In recent years, Iran has conducted several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.
On May 23, the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces launched major military drills code-named Beit ul-Muqaddas 26 in the central province of Isfahan with the test-firing of indigenous Nazeat and Fajr (Dawn) 5 missiles.
Iran has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
