Heavy rains on Wednesday night in Neka have caused river waters to rise, prompting the governor to order the evacuation of households near the river in anticipation of possible flooding.
In an interview with the Mehr News Agency, Ali Rajabi said emergency workers have managed so far to control the flooding, and all rescue workers are now on alert since the area is prone to flooding.
The flooding of the Neka River 15 years ago left scores of people dead and thousands homeless. It severely damaged the city infrastructure and government buildings.
