Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari says a final settlement of the decade-old western nuclear dispute with Iran will serve the interests of his country.
In a statement released on Friday, Zebari voiced Baghdad’s support for the nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers, stressing that Iraq is fully determined to maintain contacts with all sides involved in the nuclear negotiations.

A comprehensive agreement between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain - plus Germany will benefit Iraq, Zabari said.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has expressed optimism that the ongoing nuclear negotiations with the Sextet of world powers will result in a final agreement.

“Despite the existing difficulties, Iran’s talks with the P5+1 shall, God willing, ultimately reach an agreement, because agreement and a win-win game are in everyone’s interest,” Rouhani said on May 19.

Iran and the six world powers wrapped up their latest round of nuclear talks in the Austrian capital Vienna on May 16.

Iran says there has been no tangible progress in writing the draft text of a comprehensive agreement over the country’s nuclear energy program.

Iran and the six countries have been discussing ways to iron out differences and start drafting a final deal that would end the West’s dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.

In November 2013, the two sides signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva that came into force on January 20.
