Iran has commemorated the International Museum Day (IMD) and Cultural Heritage Week during a celebration held in Tehran.
A number of Iran’s cultural officials and cultural activists have attended the gala held at Hafezieh Hall in Tehran’s Sa’adabad Palace.
The participants enjoyed various programs that were offered at the event on May 18, 2014.
Many museum managers were also honored at the event for their attempts in protecting the country’s heritage and national properties.
Several organizations and institutes that contributed to the establishment of museums in the country were also hailed at the ceremony.
International Museum Day is a celebration that held every year on or around May 18.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to encourage public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.
The festive day provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and alert them as to the challenges that museums face.
