The fifth naval region was launched by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Fars News Agency reported on Sunday.
The IRGC head Mohammad Ali Jafari attended the ceremony.
General Ali Ozamaee was appointed as a chief commander of IRCG's fifth naval region.
The fifth naval region is located in Iran's southern region, covering Kish island to Gheshm islands.
Establishment of a new naval region in the south was carried out as the United Kingdom is considering the probability of deploying warplanes to Persian Gulf.
Mentioning the UK plan, IRGC chief commander Jafari said that 'weak presence' of West's military forces in Persian Gulf indicates the western countries' prostration.
