Iran would incorporate surrounding of Persepolis to UNESCO dossier

22 Apr 2014 - 14:04

TEHRAN, April 22 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy-head of Cultural Heritage Organization has said they would incorporate historical surrounding of Persepolis to its UNESCO dossier.
Mohammad Hassan Talebian who was speaking to Mehr News about incorporation of Naqsh-e Rustam (an inscription), Naqsh-e-Radjab, and Kaaba of Zoroaster to Persepolis’ UNESCO dossier told that it depended much on the Organization’s policies, but “an Italian archeology team had promised to work their geophysical field experiments between Tal-e-Ajori and Naqsh-e-Rostam to complete the dossier.”

“First, we had plans to add only Naqsh-e-Rostam to the dossier, however, the dicision was changed in favor of incorporating the whole historical sites surrounding of Persepolis including Parseh constellation of Mount Rahmat, Mount Hosseinabad, and city of Istakhr to the dossier, thus bringing to the view a historical expanse for Persepolis,” said he.

“ before, parts of the expanse between Tal-e-Ajori and Persepolis had been excavated; but the cultivated lands restricted the excavations between Tal-e-Ajori and Naqsh-e-Rostam; we currently work on irrigation plan of the whole plain which had partly implemented before, or other parts need work including cultural venue, plant cover, and mountains,” he explained.

He also provided details of issues rising in the historical site. “We expect that Fars Province Roads Authority would cooperate well in stopping the construction of the road expanded well into Naqsh-e-Rostam, so that the dossier would be accepted by the UNESCO,” Talebian told Mehr News.

He also believed that sending two separate dossiers, UNESCO would argue, was better since “the two plans are extensive enough to be regarded as a single site,” however, he said that this depended on the Cultural Heritage Organization’s policies.
