Kabul, March 27, IRNA – Visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said here on Thursday that we can not talk about moderation in a region where even a small group beat the drums of ignorance.
President Rouhani made the remark in the fifth Nowrouz festival currently underway in Kabul.
“ Today we are commemorating Nowrouz in a land, which at some points in its history was the victim of ignorance, anger and extremism,” he added.
President Rouhani also described Nowrouz as the most ancient tradition of history that will never be worn.
President Rouhani also wished success for Afghanistan in its upcoming election, calling for establishment of tranquility and development for this country.
Afghanistan is holding the fifth Nowrouz festival. Iran hosted the first and second festivals and Turkmenistan and Tajikistan organized the third and fourth ones respectively.
Nowrouz, which means New Day, has been celebrated annually for at least 3,000 years. It is one of the oldest and most cherished festivities in Iran. The UNESCO has recognized the occasion as “intangible cultural heritage of Persian origin.”
