TEHRAN (FNA)- An exhibition on the Iranian Navy’s weaponry and technological achievements opened in the Southern city of Khorramshahr on Monday.
The exhibition, inaugurated by Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, displays the Navy’s latest achievements.
Several provincial officials attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
Rear Admiral Sayyari visited different parts of the exhibition, and during the tour he also unveiled two novels with defense topics, named Sear in Cage and Champion Khorramshahr.
A similar exhibition was opened in Tehran on November 28 on the occasion of the national Navy Day.
November 28 marks the ‘Navy Day’ in Iran during which the Navy discloses its latest achievements in building weaponry and equipment every year.
Sayyari also underlined indigenization of the construction of destroyers in Iran, and told FNA that “a number of plants in Southern and Northern Iran are building destroyers and providing the needs of the Navy”.
Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
Iran in June 2013 launched its overhauled and modernized destroyer named Bayandor in the Southern waters of the country in the presence of Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi and Rear Admiral Sayyari.
