TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian military commander said that any military action against Iran by the United States would be "a strategic mistake," Tehran Times daily reported on Sunday.
Major General Gholam Ali Rashid said Saturday that "Our armed forces, particularly the Navy, will give a crushing response to any aggressive or surprise move," according to the report.
"Expanding the Islamic Republic of Iran's might on the sea and the presence of the country's strategic naval forces in coastal and international waters will increase Iran's deterrence capability in the event of a strategic confrontation with the United States," the Iranian commander was quoted as saying.
The West and Israel suspect that the Iranian nuclear program, which the officials of the Islamic republic insists is "peaceful," may have military dimensions.
The United States and Israel have not ruled out the possibility of striking Iran's nuclear facilities. The Islamic republic has threatened that it will retaliate if its nuclear establishments are hit.
