Islamabad, March 10, IRNA – The editor of a Pakistani newspaper on Monday said that the visit of European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to Iran would help EU and the Islamic Republic understand each other in a more comprehensive way.
Talking to IRNA, Zahid Malik, chief editor of daily ‘Pakistan Observer’ said that EU should come out of an American influence on its foreign policy and take steps to lift illegal sanctions from Iran as early as possible.
Catherine Ashton visited Iran at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to promote ties with Tehran.
During the visit she separately met with President Hassan Rouhani, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Representative of the Supreme Leader in Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Secretary of SNSC Ali Shamkhani and Head of Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati.
Zahid Malik termed Ashton’s visit as very important adding that it would open new vistas of cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the EU. “It is very useful visit,” said the senior journalist.
Expressing his views the senior journalist said that strong relationship between Iran and EU is in the interest of both the parties.
The analyst said that it is very good to see that relationship between Iran and the EU is getting strong. The editor went on to say that European Union is a major block and in coming years it will emerge as a super power.
The intellectual added that EU must take further steps as confidence building measure to implement Iran’s nuclear deal in letter and spirit. “EU must take steps to lift illegal sanctions from Iran as early as possible,” viewed Zahid Malik.
He strongly believed that sanctions have no justification against the Islamic Republic.
The senior journalist said that European Union (EU) should come out of an American influence on its foreign policy and take independent decisions. “I think that the European countries have realized that they need to pursue independent policies,” he said.
