PUNJAB University’s Persian Department’s Firdowsi Chair in collaboration with Khana-e-Farhang Iran organised an art exhibition at the Sherani Hall and a seminar at the Senate Hall on renowned Persian poet and author of Shahnama-e-Firdowsi at Oriental College, Old Campus, on Wednesday.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran inaugurated the exhibition while Iran’s Consul General in Lahore Muhammad Hussain Bani Assadi, Director General, Cultural Centre of Iran Lahore, Abdul Raza Sultani, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Ismatullah Zahid, Chairman, Department of Persian, Prof Dr Moeen Nizami, Chairman Firdowsi Prof Dr Muhammad Nasir, faculty members and a large number of students were present.
Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said that Shahnama-e-Firdowsi gave a lesson of patriotism, unity and fight against terrorism. He said Pakistan and Iran enjoyed historical relations and Persian language had an important role in creation of Urdu language. He said it was regrettable that we were unaware of Persian language. He congratulated the Persian Chair and Khana-e-Farhang on organising the art exhibition and the seminar.
Dr Muhammad Nasir read the English translation of Shahnama-e-Firdowsi while Dr Moeen Nizami read the research paper on Effects of Shahnama-e-Firdowsi in the Subcontinent”. Prof Dr Ismatullah Zahid highlighted the role of University Oriental College in promotion of languages.
On this occasion, special messages of Bangladesh’s Dr Shamim Khan, India’s Dr Subhash Kumar and Tajikstan’s Dr Misbah Uddin were read.
