TEHRAN, Feb. 29, (MNA) – Head of Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum Research Center has said domestic energy consumption in Iran is equivalent to the energy consumption through the whole European industries.
Dr Hamid Katouzian said that "should the current energy consumption procedure not change, by 2025 Iran will be the 1st largest natural gas importer in the world."

At the Iran 2014 Symposium Katouzian pointed to a new pattern to optimize energy consumption by Iranian parliamentarians who issued a statement to correct energy usage among Iranians by this pattern.

Head of Ministry of Petroleum Research Center asserted that half of the country’s energy is wasted in domestic sector, 3.4 of which is wasted through the vehicles moving with single person and 2/3 parts of power plants' energy are also wasted.

Katouzian said that the international energy efficiency ratio is between 60 to 70 percent while in Iran among some power plants it is only 13 percent.

Chief of the 3rd Iran 2014 Symposium added that “if energy consumption continues the same way by 2025 Iran will need 2.5 million squares natural gas which makes Iran the main gas importer in the world.

He censured domestic energy consumption high rate and pointed that Iranian domestic energy consumption is as much as the whole European industry energy usage.

Katouzian held that implementation of parliament’s pattern for energy usage will hopefully change this habit which needs cooperation of all executives and people.
