A car bomb attack outside the Iranian consulate in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar has killed at least two soldiers and left a dozen others injured.
Local security officials said the attack took place on Monday evening outside the Iranian consulate in Peshawar – the capital of Pakistan’s militancy-hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province bordering Afghanistan.

Sources say Iranian consulate staff members were unharmed in the bombing.

Tehran has strongly condemned the terrorist attack.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said all countries in the region should cooperate to counter the growing violence and sectarian tensions in the region.

No group or person has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, but Taliban militant groups have been blamed for such attacks in the past.

The militants are highly active in Pakistan’s tribal regions, which border neighboring Afghanistan. They want to overthrow the state institutions and impose Wahhabi laws across the country.

Last week, Islamabad suspended talks with the militants following the execution of 23 captured soldiers.

Meanwhile, thousands of Pakistanis have taken to the streets in the port city of Karachi to show their support for the army's recent air raids on the hideouts of Taliban militants.
